David studied geotechnical engineering at The Ohio State University and interned with CTL Engineering in Columbus where among other things he provided construction material testing, in the field and lab, for the AEP building in Columbus as well as the National Airport in Washington D.C. Another internship led David to Wyoming to provide geotechnical engineering services at the Chevron Gas Plant in Evanston, working for Cooper and Clark Engineering in Redwood, California. After completing his course work at OSU, David accepted a scholarship to Samford University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. After graduating, David became interested in applying his background in engineering and business administration to a new course of study in ornamental horticulture, in which he earned state licenses in Landscape Design (LD), Horticulture (SLP) and Ornamental Turf Pest Control (OTPC). In 1983, David started DSLD Land Management Company, Inc. with a goal and vision of providing residential and commercial construction design/build and general contracting services under one roof. Since that time, David has developed a strategic plan to expand the firm’s construction service offerings. Delivering the strategic plan, he has added several new divisions to include professional design, civil engineering, aquatics, commercial drone services, custom home building, construction management and a retail store on highway 280. David resides in Birmingham with his wife, four children and eight grandchildren, where he enjoys family time together. The family enjoys swimming and equestrian activities along with raising chickens. David has dedicated most of his adult life to working with vulnerable children in the state’s foster care system. He and his wife have fostered over thirty children over the years and adopted one beautiful little girl. David has also served on the board of directors for the National Foster Parent Association (NFPA) and the North American Counsel on Adoptable Children (NACAC). He has also authored legislation at the state and national level to support children in foster care. David looks forward to the future of DSLD Land Management Company as he grows the business working alongside his three sons: Cole (IT/Drone), Zachary (Civil) and Miles (Production).
