Founder & vision
David Sharp
Founder, CEO & President
David founded DSLD in 1983 around a straightforward idea: design, technical planning and construction should work as one coordinated service.
His background spans engineering, business administration, ornamental horticulture and landscape design. Over four decades, he has expanded DSLD into an integrated Birmingham firm serving landscape architecture, civil engineering, surveying and drone mapping, luxury pools, custom homes and construction management.

A founder’s vision, carried forward.
David now works alongside his three sons, each leading a different part of the integrated company he started in 1983. Cole advances technology and information security, Zach leads construction, and Miles directs production—keeping long-term vision and day-to-day accountability closely connected.

Mark Richenderfer
CFO & Vice President of Finance
Mark leads finance and accounting and works with the management team on strategic planning.
He holds an accounting degree from Villanova University, an MBA in Finance from Drexel University and a Master Certificate in Six Sigma and Lean from Villanova.
Zachary Sharp
Vice President of Construction
Zach leads construction with a lifelong understanding of the family business and a civil engineering foundation.
He earned his civil engineering degree from the University of Alabama at Birmingham and is a state-licensed landscape designer.
Austin Tatum
Vice President, Operations & Analytics
Austin connects field operations with the data and systems that keep complex work moving.
A UAB mechanical engineering graduate, he is also a state-licensed landscape designer, residential home builder and general contractor.
Danny Trawick
Vice President of Engineering
Danny leads engineering with experience in geotechnical work, construction materials testing and commercial and industrial construction.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama.

Jim Hogan
Registered Landscape Architect
Jim brings decades of landscape architecture experience across residential, commercial, resort, recreation and civic work.
Auburn University trained, he has been a registered landscape architect in Alabama for more than 25 years.
Stephen Pyc
Senior Landscape Architect
Stephen guides landscape design and project oversight throughout the Southeast.
He earned his landscape architecture degree from Michigan State University and contributes across multiple facets of DSLD's design work.
Dawson Timmons, EI
Civil Designer
Dawson supports civil design with a precise, site-first approach to planning and documentation.
He holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Georgia and an Engineer Intern license in Alabama.
Dillard Barrett
Associate Landscape Architect
Dillard combines design, nature and creative problem-solving to turn early ideas into thoughtful outdoor environments.
He studied at Auburn University and brings a hand-drawn sensibility to the firm's design process.
Ricky Geiger
Information Technology & Survey Support
Ricky supports the design and survey teams with topographic maps, site plans and the technical systems behind them.
His field experience also extends to DSLD's pool division as a membrane installer.

Cole leads technology and information security while helping DSLD apply practical digital tools across design, fieldwork and operations.
Having grown up in the family business, he pairs hands-on knowledge of DSLD's work with a focus on innovation and technical support.
Miles Sharp
Production Manager
Miles coordinates production with experience rooted in excavation, construction and the family business.
He is a state-licensed landscape designer and horticulturalist and holds a Class A commercial driver's license.
James Smith
Director of Operations
James streamlines processes and supports team efficiency through a blend of operational, landscape and technology experience.
He holds a degree in Management Information Systems with a minor in Computer Science from the University of Alabama.
Larry Davis
Sales Manager
Larry brings nearly four decades of sales and customer-service experience to the first conversations that shape a DSLD project.
His approach centers on understanding client needs, communicating clearly and building long-term relationships.
